Patrícia Pinto e Filipe – President

Patrícia graduated from her BSc in Economics last year and is now taking the Master in Economics at Nova SBE. Her decision to pursue further studies in Economics was strongly influenced by her exchange semester in BI Business School, in Norway, and by NEC. Patrícia has been a member of the NEC since 2014 and has undertaken several responsibilities within the club, namely with projects, events, marketing activities, newsletter, recruitment, etc. She cares about how economic policies affect people’s behavior and choices, and what are the optimal solutions to increase global welfare.

João Pereira dos Santos – Honorary President

JOÃO PEREIRA

João Pereira dos Santos is a PhD candidate in Economics at Nova SBE. He recently participated in the Advanced Studies Program of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy taught by scholars from Harvard, Stanford, among other universities. He holds a MSc in Economics from Nova SBE and he also studied in the London School of Economics and in Universitat Pompeu Fabra. João worked as Research Assistant in projects related to Economic History, Public Economics, and Political Economy. He presented his work in conferences such as the European Public Choice Meeting and the International Panel Data. His interests also include International Trade, and Behavioral Economics. João has worked for the Embassy of Ecuador, completed a Seminar in European Studies at the European Parliament, and he was the First President of Nova Debate.

Miguel Costa Matos – Vice-President Events

Miguel, 22, is an economist with a passion for social justice. He came to Nova after 3 years at Warwick reading Philosophy, Politics and Economics. Immediately getting involved in NEC, Miguel has put his experience in organizing conferences and publications to use for the club. Miguel is currently a Visiting Researcher at the Ministry of the Economy. In his free time, Miguel is an aspiring foodie who enjoys traveling and culture with his girlfriend.

Matteo Ruzzante – Vice-President International & Club Life

Matteo Ruzzante is an economics student and teaching assistant at Nova School of Business and Economics.

He graduated in Economics and Management at the University of Padua, with a final thesis regarding the public debt level through the history of advanced economies. Even though he moved to Lisbon last year, he already considers himself as a real Portuguese. During his undergraduate studies, he also attended an exchange semester in the University Carlos III of Madrid.

Matteo joined NEC last year, taking part to a project and the monthly newsletter. His experience in economics research includes two internships: the first in the economic department of the regional public agency for agriculture and environment (in 2015) and the second in NOVAFRICA’s project “On the Mechanics of the Natural Resource Curse” (in 2016), where he did some fieldwork in Cabo Delgado, north of Mozambique.

His main research interests are in macroeconomics and development economics.

 

 


Beatriz Braz – Vice-President Communications

Beatriz is a 2nd year Economics bachelor student at Nova SBE. Her interest in economics emerged since she was younger. Years later she started to join several national and international competitions related with Social and Political Economy, Business, and Monetary Policy in the Eurozone. Her main interests are History of Economics, Globalization and Economic Systems. She believes crisis are opportunities to change, since pursuing the economic model of nowadays is unsustainable in the short and long run. After one year as NEC member, Beatriz developed a project about Over-indebtedness in Portugal, in partnership with DECO, and is currently developing another project regarding the Portuguese Housing Market, in partnership with the Ministry of Finance.

 

 

 

 


João Cortes – Vice-President People

João is a student in Economics passionate about economic development and sustainable economics. Since he joined the club he took interest in supporting several NEC activities. After a year of research, he has elaborated a policy brief on Eurozone along with his co-workers with the support from the Center for Globalization and Governance.
